Plants can be both medicine and poison
70% of Peng Chau is green area. Diverse flora used for traditional Chinese medicine can be found, as well as many flowering plants, ferns, native and foreign species of trees, and cactus. Far from the pollution of the city, the island is a haven for 50-some species of birds, 100-some kinds of insects and some rare lichens. Take a look at some pictures:
Agave
Agave belongs to the Agavaceae family and is an exotic plant brought to Peng Chau by the fishermen, who use it for making ropes and nets.
Banyan Trees
Besides fresh air and serenity as the first strong impressions of Peng Chau, visitors are amazed to find groups of people sitting under thick shades of immense trees chatting or taking naps. This natural fresh umbrella keeping the heat at bay is put in place by banyan trees.
Chinese Lobelia
Can be found at places with snakes, used to heal snake bites
