This  temple is a Taoist temple standing between a couple of others. It's parent temple is in Haifung. At the beginning of the 50's a learned teacher arrived on Peng Chau. The original temple was constructed in Nam Wan and in 1963 it was moved to its current location. This temple consecrates the Taoist trinity and other Gods. For example, Duke Guan, King Hou, and so on.Taoism is a religion which originated in China. It probably appeared during the time of the Eastern Han Dynasty in the second century A.D., which means it currently has some 1800 years of history.
It is said that people whose ear length reached seven inches were called "plum ear" or "old cauliflower ear" and is representative of Taoists, especially as seen of Lao Tzu. Lao Tzu is recognised as the founder Taoism and is presented as the father of the theory of "the way" or "the Tao", which speaks of a mystical invisible force of nature, famous for its natural undirected unforced activity, that existed as the initial primordial murky mixture of the universe and continues to be the primary guiding force for the universe now. During the development process for Taoists, the taoist priests take "the road" (originally to the Tao Te Jing) as the basic belief and the religious doctrine. They regard "the road" to have the bright standard of the Holy Ghost and those on the road think not only of the fountainhead of the myriad things, but also of world salvation. There is no place on "the road" to be caught up in naming the unceasing creation of "distinct" manifestations of "the tao" which has fallen upon the generations, to assist the bright rulers, rescues those in danger and helps those in trouble, disseminates the teachings of the Masters, seeks to enlighten the populace, and to transform oneself to become one with "the Tao", which is the true aim of Lao Tzu. Taoist priests also practice Taoism's quietism and inaction, along with the value of keeping in good health as well as the corresponding meditation and practices to unify oneself with "the Tao" and have established their own exercises of "building perfection alchemy". Taoism preaches the 5 behaviours to avoid and the 10 behaviours to cultivate.

Because "the road" does not exist in "a place", the taoist priests do not believe in a God that tracks our every word and deed. Instead believing that all become spiritually weighted down by incautious words and deeds and reduces the spiritual weight through cultivating oneself according to religious doctrine to develop the merit and Yang lifespan, while those that have become spiritually heavy fall in to the hell for what seems an eternity as it is painstakingly difficult to extricate oneself from hell.

The taoist priests are frequently welcomed by the populace during the Buddhist ceremonies, or to ceremonies for the deceased's soul, or to expel evil spirits causing havoc with the town, or to expel sickness and end disasters. As for such as the metaphysical matters, the priests will calculate the ancient divination symbol, tell fortunes by physiognomy, check Feng Shui, and so on.
